Jiri Malek received his Ph.D. degree from Institute of Chemical Technology, Pardubice in 1986. In 2000 he was awarded D.Sc. degree from the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague. He spent more than two years as a visiting researcher at the NIMS in Tsukuba, Japan, two years at University of Seville, Spain and one year at the Polytechnic University of Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain. 

His research interests cover several topics in Physical Chemistry, Materials Science and Chemical Physics, being mainly specialized in kinetics of nucleation-growth processes, structural relaxation and visco-elastic behavior of non-crystalline materials and highly supercooled glass-forming liquids, with more than 220 papers published in scientific journals. He has been elected to Engineering Academy of the Czech Republic and served for more than 10 years as national ICTAC Councillor. 

Prof. Málek served as vice-rector (2000-2006), rector of University of Pardubice (2006-2010), member and vice-chairman of the R&D Council of the Czech government (2008-2015) and member of the Scientific Council of Czech Scieence Foundation (2010-2018). Currently he is rector of University of Pardubice (2018 - ) and vice-chairman of the Czech Rector’s Conference.
