Prof. Vladimír BALEK Nuclear Research Institute Rez Czech Republic Objectives:
1. To provide the scientific support for the evaluation of industrial products and processes from the viewpoint of their impact to the
environment.
2. To present and discuss examples of applying the methods of thermal analysis and calorimetry to the topics like e.g.:
- Requirements for the energy consumption in extraction, processing and manufacturing of various industrial products.
- Development and use of advanced, environmentally friendly technologies.
- Environmental impact of the materials during their use.
- Development and evaluation of processes for the re-cycling of materials.
- Assessment of the environmental impact of the waste management and storage.
Activities/Actions:
Since ICTAC 13 held in September 2004 in Chia Laguna, Italy, members of the Working group met with the occasion of thermal analysis meetings. A workshop was held at MEDICTA 2007, held in Palermo, Italy.
1. The Workshop on environmentally friendly materials will be organised in 2010 with the occasion of the ESTAC 10 Meeting. It was recommended that the Workshop should be oriented to the characterization of the advanced materials for environmental technologies, materials for the remediation of the environment and for the waste treatments.
2. Preparation of the review in the field of “Application of thermal analysis and calorimetry to the sustainability and environmental safety” especially to the evaluation of industrial products and processes from the viewpoint of their impact to the environment.
The collection of papers will be published in Journal of thermal analysis and calorimetry. All authors interested to contribute to this collection of papers are invited to contact as soon as possible
