ICTAC Scientific Commission and Working Groups

The Scientific Commission is the core of the society. Council is empowered to set up Committees, Working Groups and special Task Groups and to split them, after their objectives, into the Scientific Commission.

The scientific plans and their reports over the past four years should be reported by the Chair to the Council to receive their approval. On the recommendation of the Chair of the Scientific Commission, Council may decide to stop the activities of such a Group or Committee or to change its status if necessary.

Specific rules for Committees and Working groups (see: General Guidelines for Committees and Working Groups) were defined, but the main difference between both are:

Committee is a status to be conferred to any group with a concrete outline of activity, including goals, committee membership and solid leadership. It is defined as a standing or permanent group with continuing issues or tasks. It is expected that the "detailed working plan" would be required for committees.

Working group is a status that should be conferred to any former committee that does not fit this criterion and for those that are just beginning to focus on a specific task or goal. It is defined as either 1) a group with continuing general interest in their filed of expertise but without a specific task or goal or 2) a group that may become a committee but is currently in the formative stages.

The detailed working plan would be required for a group looking for committee status while those with lesser expectations would not be required to generate such a plan.

The tasks of Committees and Working Groups are to work out and solve scientific and technical problems related to the field of Thermal Analysis. The results of Committees & Working Group's must aim at and terminate with an official communication to the thermo-analytical community, i.e. as a publication, a procedure, a recommendation, a report, a WEB-page, a data-bank, a list of literature, a data evaluation, a series of workshops or symposia, a conference organization, etc.
